Rediscovering Nostalgia
Project supported by Kio-A-Thau Sugar Refinery Artist Village "Rediscovering Nostalgia" is a site-specific work that reflects the landscape and historical resources related to the sugar industry in Ciaotou, Kaohsiung. The magnificent view of a 100-year-old sugar refinery, now being preserved as an industrial heritage turns into my everyday scenery as I reside and work in one of the warehouses in the factory. Though being in a foreign country, the artifacts, many of which were conserved from the Japanese colonial era bring a strange feeling of familiarity. Through drawing, installation, and performative intervention, my project attempts to make connections between present and past by rediscovering and revitalizing the transient moments of beauty in the old days that are otherwise forgotten in the history.
