During the residency at Taitung Art Museum, artist yukaotani has traveled to various regions of the county. She draws inspiration from the landscape and observes the experience of spending a good amount of solitary time in a remote place where she confronts the beautiful and sometimes severe nature of Taitung. The outcome of the residency, “A Tale of Water and Mountains” is a non-narrative video capturing the scenic areas around Beinan river. The river plays an important role in Taitung as its abundant water nurtures agriculture and people’s lives. The video is comprised of the scenes shot in different locations around the river valley, following the water flow from its upper stream to the Pacific Ocean. The monochrome tones of the video further emphasize the contour of the sublime landscape, also implying a deeply self-reflective spiritual journey of the artist herself.
